What I like best about songwriting is the freedom. I get to say whatever I want about whatever I want in whatever manner I choose, along with whatever noise I can get from the guitar. If it ends up entertaining and/or amusing, that’s a big big bonus.
After a lifetime of taking music in, now there’s some coming back out. I got hold of the four-stringed tenor guitar which in my view is only two thirds as daunting as the standard issue. That was a goodly boost and some songs have slowly emerged. Since all this is only a few years old, I hope that at age 70 I might just be hitting my songwriting prime!
It’s been a nice reward to discover the fun of going to open mics and whatever other small events come along.
